My “PINKness” has gone from a personal love to a personal brand. Never has that been reinforced so much as during a week in February 2018. I attended the Global Speakers Summit 2018 in Auckland and wore a different pink frock each day for 4 days. And when there was an evening function with a different dress code then that outfit was pink also. Not necessarily because I was thinking strategically, but because that’s what’s in my wardrobe. Mostly.
By just the second day a couple of previously unknown conference delegates stopped me and said words like “didn’t you have pink on yesterday?” As each day went by there were more comments.
Then at the airport, just before boarding the plane I randomly sat next to someone in the gate lounge who said “Oh you’re The Pink Lady – how’s your book going?” We sat next to one another on a flight last year.
And recently, I had reason to call Geraldton Air Charter and when Camryn answered the phone she said “Oh you’re The Pink Lady!” We met very briefly last November before going on a Pink Lake Aerial Tour. After thanking her for remembering me, I queried whether she remembers everyone and she replied “No but I remember you because you were wearing pink to visit the pink lakes”. She laughed when I said I wear pink every day and that was the reason for wanting to see those particular lakes!
So… what’s the message here? For me it’s not to change anything. Embrace my PINKness because people not only notice in the moment but remember it. And then share “pink things” with me either as social media comments or actual gifts. And I absolutely love that.
What can you embrace? I know a few other people who do this to a greater or lesser extent. One friend, Julie Cross, wears sequins whatever the time of day (unless she’s trying to hide😎). What you embrace may be something other than a colour. Another friend, Vickie Exton Magic fills her world with owls and Chris Wildeboer chooses dragonflies.
Whatever you choose, be consistent. The recognition doesn’t happen overnight, although it might. And there may be a “tipping point” or a series of random events as happened to me this week where the brand really feels like it has stuck. I certainly feel PinkWise.
And, I grateful that, despite all this strategic business talk, PINK still IS a personal love!
